Capcora advises Trina Solar on the sale of a solar PV project in the Czech Republic.

Frankfurt am Main, 25.01.2024

Trina Solar, a leader in smart PV and energy storage solutions, has successfully sold an operational solar park with the capacity of approximately 3 MWp situated in the Czech Republic. The project has been acquired by a consortium of private investors. Specific financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. Frankfurt-based consulting firm Capcora served as the M&A advisor for this deal, which was successfully concluded in December 2023. On the legal side, Trina Solar ISBU, a global leader in the development and management of solar projects, was advised by CMS.

The project, which is located in the district of Louny, Czech Republic, went online in November 2010 and is still benefitting from a fixed feed-in tariff. In total, the project can provide renewable energy to 1,000 households.

In 2010, the Czech Republic saw a substantial surge in its solar capacity, reaching almost 2,000 MW. However, growth stalled for the following decade. Now, there's a gradual resurgence in the market, driven by the Czech National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) 2030 target, aiming to add 1.8 GWp of capacity, bringing the national PV capacity to 4 GWp by 2030.

Starting in 2021, the PV market has seen a revival, thanks to investment subsidies from the European Union's Modernization Fund, high electricity prices and enhance energy security. These factors are expected to drive the installation of at least 5.75 GWp of new capacity by the end of the decade, significantly exceeding the NECP targets.
